Thin kerf cutting forces of frozen and non-frozen Norway spruce and Scots pine wood

چکیده
Reducing the kerf width in bandsawing has potential reducing waste while optimising yield. To be able to reduce width, understanding cutting forces becomes critical. In this work, nine teeth with varying band-body thicknesses and side clearances were tested by both heartwood sapwood of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) frozen non-frozen conditions. Single moved into rotating wood samples 90–90° direction, chip 0.9 mm per cut. The main normal measured. had a higher density than and, therefore, force. Non-frozen sapwood, resulted similar forces, but significantly forces. about 45% an approximately 40% reduction not affected species or width. Frozen heartwood, negative thus self-feeding was observed.

Boron retranslocation in Scots pine and Norway spruce.
We previously traced 10B-enriched boric acid from shoots to roots to demonstrate the translocation of boron (B) in Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) seedlings. To gain a more detailed understanding of B translocation, we sought: (1) to demonstrate B retranslocation directly, by showing that foliar-applied 10B is located in the new growth after dormancy...

متن کاملDurability of thermally modified Norway spruce and Scots pine in above ground conditions
One of the main objectives of thermal modification is to increase the biological durability of wood. In this study the fungal resistance of Norway spruce and Scots pine, thermally modified at 1958C and 2108C, was studied with a lap-joint field test. Untreated pine and spruce and pine impregnated with tributyl tin oxide (TBTO) and copper, chromium and arsenic (CCA) were selected as reference mat...
متن کاملNatural Regeneration of Scots Pine and Norway Spruce Close to the Timberline in Northern Finland
Two different datasets were analyzed in order to clarify the factors that affect regeneration success of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Norway spruce (Picea abies) in the climatically extreme areas in northern Finland. First, pine seed maturity and the number of cones in the trees were investigated at five pairs of study sites during the period 1997–2003. Secondly, the rate of seedling estab...
